Prevent a Slip and Fall at School and At Home

From the moment children learn to walk, falling has become an inevitable part of their lives. Parents have always taken precautions to minimize falls. From walking behind them, holding their hands, and making sure shoelaces are tied, promotion of fall safety has been a number one priority. Even school administrators take all the necessary precautions to ensure falls do not turn into bigger accidents. There are still aspects in homes and schools that can cause a child to slip or trip and fall. Here we provide solutions to these areas.

Areas Where a Child May Slip and Fall

At Safety Direct America, we are well aware of the areas in a commercial and residential setting where falls are most likely to occur. Areas of concerns in a school include restrooms, the cafeteria, and the outdoor play areas.
Since children tend to trail water after they wash their hands, the floor of a restroom can lead to an unsuspecting child slipping. Spilled food and drink offers the same problem in the cafeteria. If the child’s play area includes a smooth surface, sprinklers or rain can also lead to a slip, along with hallways that are covered with tracked-in water. Solutions include coating these floors with a non-slip coating to hinder any falls from occurring.
A home offers similar problems areas such as the bathroom. A child getting in and out of a tub runs the risk of slipping on soapy residue left in the tub, or on a slippery tub rim when getting out. Use an anti-slip tape or transparent coating inside your tub and on the rim and apply an anti-slip coating to your bathroom floors.
An anti-slip coating or chemical treatment is great for the other problem areas in your home such as the stairs and hallways. Sometimes children ignore the “No Running in the House” rule and that can lead to serious injuries when running down hallways and stairs, especially in socks. The surrounding areas of a pool should also have an anti-slip coating to protect all family members who partake in poolside activities. Pool stairs and entry ramps also need to be anti-slip.
