The Safety Hazards of the Rain

With the cold season, comes the rainstorms and the hazards they possess. Every year, millions slip and fall while it is raining. This is due to the fact that the ground is slippery and a person loses grip of the floor. While you can walk gingerly as possible, there is always the chance you will fall. You can make changes in your home and buildings to ensure everyone remains safe.

Rainy Season Preparation

Many owners do not realize their home or building is prone to leakage until the first rain. For the most part, leakage is obvious but other times you may not realize until extreme damage occurs. You will want to inspect your roof beforehand, be on the lookout for missing shingles and cracks. Waiting until someone slips on a puddle should not be an option.
Your roof should be completely sealed along with doors and windows as water will make it through any crack it can get through. Windows do not have to be completely shut but when closed, they should be sealed without the hint of a crack. Same goes for your door, having all cracks in your home sealed will keep rain and other elements out to keep your home and buildings safe and damage-free.
Set out heavy duty mats in- and outside of your home or building to catch all of the water that people will bring inside. Having mats will subconsciously encourage everyone entering to wipe their feet and by having double the mats, you will catch more water than with one. This will prevent water from pooling onto the floor and causing slips. Designate an area just inside the door to umbrella storage as they become a slip hazard when they track in the rain.
